Back to AIDS

I just finished reading, no devouring, A Home at the End of the World. It’s a rich novel that explores relationships and the limits of love. It begins in the 60’s and I’m uncomfortable because there’s sex but no talk of condoms and I’m furiously flipping pages because I know what the 80’s will bring. There was incredible sadness and fear in the 80’s and the 90’s were marked by slower deaths with anger and activism. There’s an article that needs to be written and it needs a more targeted …

Things I Know About Marriage & Careers After 15 Years

This should be a two-word post. Not much. I don’t know much about marriage and careers even though I’ve been married for over 15 years. I suspect many things and I know a lot about my marriage but I don’t know a lot about other people’s marriages. I ask about them and certainly, I observe them but if success or failure is marked by marriage or divorce then none of us know much. There are marriages I knew were doomed. The Only Thing Better than an Hour of Tennis is Two Hours of Tennis

The Facebook, G+ and Twitter fast is going better than I’d ever imagined. I have seen a drop off of readership here and I’m sorry about that but I try to tell myself that at some point my friends will think, “I haven’t heard from Jessica in a while. I had a tennis match at 9 this morning and typically you have 90 minutes on the court before someone gives you the boot. …

Notabli (Wisely) Launches on Data Privacy Day

January 28 is Data Privacy Day and it’s a day that most bloggers ignore because we’re all so busy¬†over sharing¬†our lives that I’m not sure that any of us would even know what to do. I don’t. Know I mean… It’s just sort of ingrained in me that if a picture, video or text is sent on my iPhone it’s meant to be shared. That’s become my work device and my work doesn’t include a whole lot of privacy. Not eveyone is a blogger. Not every parent is an oversharer. …

Moderate Productivity and Trip Planning

Jane is home sick today. It’s brutal because I had the cold she’s developed and it lingered. Yesterday was the first day in ten that I was really able to exercise and I got punchy. Now I’m home watching her sleep, snort and snuffle. Since it’s really just a cold there’s nothing I can do but watch her and simmer soup. It’s a horrible feeling for both of us. I’ve put a pot roast in the Crock Pot. Yes, that’s right I said Crock Pot. My friend Mike swears that …
