It’s Not A Fail If No One Sees It: Right?

This just came through my PR Filter and it made me giggle. A lot.

As a member of the media, you have access to a number of features on the media-only site, PR Newswire for Journalists. These include the digital center with audio and video, customized or industry newsfeeds, photos and logos, and our expert sourcing service, ProfNet.

ProfNet makes finding sources quick and easy. Let us know what expertise you seek, and we’ll send your query to thousands of subscribers around the world. You also can filter the query by region and institution type (e.g., colleges, PR agencies, analysts). Fill out the online form at http://budurl.com/profnetquery, and qualified sources will reply to you by e-mail. If you’re crunching under a deadline, you can search the database and directly contact sources.

ProfNet is awesome, if you aren’t me.

Because if you are me, you’ve already landed yourself in every major newspaper, glossy and FM Radio by using HARO… which has always been free. Is ProfNet possibly competing with a free service that started up out of Peter Shankman’s living room?

But hey, what do I know? I haven’t been to J-School and my Masters isn’t in Business. So, maybe there’s something I’m missing?

  1. Actually, ProfNets has been around quite a while, but our firm stopped paying for it in favor of HARO about a year ago. Before Peter started his excellent service, this was about the only show around. We have much better luck placing stories from HARO inquiries than we did with ProfNet — not sure why that is, but certainly true.

So, you’re not missing a thing, actually!

  2. I remember a former employer who used to run around singing the praises of Profnet. Ten years ago we used it pretty successfully. World has changed dramatically in that time.
