Moody

Jane is having mood swings.

Mr. G is out of town, and that always makes things more complicated. I am, however, not exaggerating when I tell you that our daughter has never been grumpy for more than a minute. Never.

Until last night. It was sustained surliness, she refused to speak to me and appeared genuinely hurt. Apparently buying her new shoes hurts her feelings?

I think we’re beginning a new phase. I have Tanis on speed dial, so it should turn out okay.

  1. Hang in there. It can/will be a long, slow, bumpy ride. Girls are complicated. However, with that said, demand that she treat you with respect regardless of how SHE is feeling!

  2. Oy vey. My daughter is almost six and I often think about what is to come in a few years…I know I was A LOT to handle for my mom! Hang in there!! Will be giving you a HUGE hug next week at 140 :-)

  3. Today I’m failing the girl parenting gig. My daughter is up in arms with me because I bought her brother new glasses and she’s deemed them cooler than the pair she owns (yet never wears.)

Nevermind the fact her brother is blind as a bat and broke his spectacles in half. The only thing my girl is concerned about is that I’m apparently tanking her cool factor by buying her little brother trendy glasses, therefore making him cooler than she is.

  4. I have a 10 yo and a 7 yo daughter. I’m floundering. Last week the 10 yo had a mood swing in the kitchen that was so forceful it almost knocked her dad off his chair. He looked at me when she left the room and said, “WHAT was THAT?” “Emotions, darling. Get used to them.” It’s like she’s a toddler all over again with how often we send her to her room.

I am wishing you all the luck in the world!!!!
