Is Technology Helping Or Hurting Our Kids?

Does technology help or hinder development?

Do you read your child’s email? I do.

  1. I made both my kids a hotmail account and the only ppl they email are me and their dad so I don’t read their email. My 10 yr old daughter has began lobbying me for Facebook page because obviously alot of her friends’ parents have lied about their kids age and let their UNDER 13 year old on Facebook. But I put my foot down and said NO. I will not lie about her age to get her on the internet. I will reconsider Facebook when she is actually 13.
I think text messaging probably has helped in some ways because it is the means of communication kids prefer over talking on the phone.
My two youngest are only 9 & 10 and don’t have their own cell phones and probably won’t until they are 13 or 14. Maybe not then, not sure. But we don’t do alot of over-night sleep aways so there is really no need for them to have their own phone. If they need to call someone they can use my phone.

  2. I think its hurting our kids personally. At charlottes age, I dont have to worry about reading her email because she doesnt have any. Im not sure at what point that will change, but it will all be open or she wont be allowed to have it.

  4. It’s hurting our kids yes. We have to TAKE CONTROL and be responsible for what our kids are doing. That means monitoring what they email, text, watch on tv, listen to on mp3s, cds, etc. We cannot leave them to themselves. It’s up to us to be involved in EVERY way.
